Interdisciplinary Preceptorship Program

As an organization, HHS is actively involved in the education and preceptoring of nursing students from universities and colleges from across the province as well as students from as far as PEI and Vancouver! HHS staff nurses have a distinguished history of this invaluable clinical teaching role that helps to shape and cement their theoretical knowledge base. During a school semester, it is common for HHS to provide placements for approximately 175 nursing students - both Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses - throughout its three hospitals and across a variety of clinical care settings.

“We feel it is our professional responsibility to support these students and provide clinical placement opportunities for them. We believe that once these students become familiar with our hospital and culture and our community atmosphere, they are more likely to come back and work for us,” explains Joan Jickling, RN, Professional Practice Coordinator. “Many of our clinical areas who have accepted students have successfully recruited these students into their areas.”
