Infection Prevention And Control

Infection prevention and control strategies are designed to reduce the risk of hospital acquired infections and to ensure a safe and healthy hospital environment for our patients, healthcare providers and visitors.

Infection prevention and control strategies at HHS in place to control the spread of infections include:

  • Participating in the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care's Just Clean Your Hands campaign.
  • Active and targeted surveillance of quality indicators to monitor trends and identify the need for intervention and/or improvement.
  • Ensuring client-centred activities incorporate the principles of infection prevention.
  • Providing infection control education and training to all staff, physicians and volunteers.
  • Providing infection control education to individuals, patients and their families.
  • Establishing policies and procedures that reflect the most current evidence-based best practices.
  • Maintaining strong liason with community healthcare and public health agencies at the local, provincial and national level.
  • Participating and supporting infection control as members of: Hamilton and Neightbouring District Infection Control (HANDIC); Community and Hospital Infection Control Association (CHICA); Toronto Practitioners in Infection Control (TPIC); Mississauga-Halton Regional Infection Control Network (MHICN).
Please check back soon for more information about specific Infection Prevention and Control practices and programs at HHS.
