Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Medicine

At OTMH, we provide primary and secondary medical inpatient care on four inpatient units and the Intensive Care Unit. Referrals are made to medical tertiary centres for highly specialized tertiary care for procedures such as cardiac catheterization. In addition to inpatient care, the Medical Program provides a wide range of outpatient clinics, such as the Halton Diabetes Program, the Heart Function Clinic and the Asthma Education Centre, to meet the healthcare needs of the community.

Most patients feel disbelief when diagnosed with a Heart Attack or Angina. At OTMH, we have a Cardiac Patient Educator who teaches patients and their families about heart disease, diagnostic tests, treatment, medications, risk factor modification and secondary prevention. Cardiac patients and their families are encouraged to begin their learning, and make steps towards a healthier lifestyle through the use of booklets and videos available for review in hospital. After patients are discharged, OTMH offers outpatient programs like the Cardiac Rehabilitation and Education Program and the Heart Function Clinic.
For more information on either of these programs please go the
Outpatient Services and Community Programs page.

Medical Day Care
The Medical Day Care unit provides patients with the convenience of having procedures completed on an outpatient basis. This includes specialized tests such as endoscopy and bronchoscopy.

Nephrology
At OTMH, Renal Disease is treated on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Nephrology inpatients are cared for by a nursing staff that has a strong focus in the management and specialized care of patients with renal disease. The hospital also benefits from the availability of two nephrologists on the medical staff who are able to assist family practitioners in caring for these patients during their hospital stay.
