Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Medicine
At OTMH, we provide primary and secondary medical inpatient care on four inpatient units and the Intensive Care Unit. Referrals are made to medical tertiary centres for highly specialized tertiary care for procedures such as cardiac catheterization. In addition to inpatient care, the Medical Program provides a wide range of outpatient clinics, such as the Halton Diabetes Program, the Heart Function Clinic and the Asthma Education Centre, to meet the healthcare needs of the community.

Cardiology Most patients feel disbelief when diagnosed with a Heart Attack or Angina. At OTMH, we have a Cardiac Patient Educator who teaches patients and their families about heart disease, diagnostic tests, treatment, medications, risk factor modification and secondary prevention. Cardiac patients and their families are encouraged to begin their learning, and make steps towards a healthier lifestyle through the use of booklets and videos available for review in hospital. After patients are discharged, OTMH offers outpatient programs like the Cardiac Rehabilitation and Education Program and the Heart Function Clinic. Medical Day Care The Medical Day Care unit provides patients with the convenience of having procedures completed on an outpatient basis. This includes specialized tests such as endoscopy and bronchoscopy.
Nephrology At OTMH, Renal Disease is treated on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Nephrology inpatients are cared for by a nursing staff that has a strong focus in the management and specialized care of patients with renal disease. The hospital also benefits from the availability of two nephrologists on the medical staff who are able to assist family practitioners in caring for these patients during their hospital stay. Palliative Care Services HHS provides a palliative care service at both hospitals to assist patients and their families facing a life-threatening or terminal illness. The Palliative Care Service is provided by a clinician in conjunction with the hospital chaplain. This service supports patients and families who are living with a life-threatening illness from diagnosis through to death and bereavement. It is active, compassionate care aimed at improving quality of life. A multidisciplinary team provides pain and symptom management including emotional and spiritual support for both the patient and the family.
Respiratory Therapy The Respiratory Therapy Department provides Respiratory Care Practitioners with an expertise in the education, planning, consultation and implementation of a variety of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures for patients of all ages suffering a wide range of heart and lung disorders. As part of the healthcare team, they work together with other professionals in areas like the Level 2 Nursery, birthing suite, operating room, intensive care unit, general medical and surgical wards for both adult and paediatrics, and emergency department. The department runs a Pulmonary Function Lab featuring a wide range of state of the art diagnostic tests and a CardioPulmonary Exercise Lab and Cardiac Exercise Lab in partnership with the Cardiology Department. Respiratory Therapy also offers the following services on an outpatient basis: Asthma Education, QuitCare Smoking Cessation, Pulmonary Rehabilitation in partnership with Physiotherapy and CAIHR Home Oxygen Therapy program.
